An Open Letter to All Melodic Power Metal Bands

To All Melodic Power Metal Bands,

We hereby request that you create great power metal songs with the following points in mind.

1. Vocal lines should be catchy
Do NOT write descending vocal melody lines. They are simply boring.
Songs should always be easy to remember and sing, and above all, uplifting. Uninspiring riffs or solos can be forgiven — a weak vocal melody cannot.

2. Keep the tempo fast
The tempo should be no less than 160 BPM, and you should drive it with a snare pattern like "Eagle Fly Free" by Helloween. A dramatic intro that merely builds into a mid-paced eight-beat groove leaves us profoundly underwhelmed. The faster, the better.

Too many melodic power metal bands lose their way after a string of album releases. The most notorious example is Sonata Arctica. Their first and second albums are genuinely outstanding, but their later output is frankly painful for longtime fans to endure. Please commit to speed and intensity the way Dragonforce does — relentlessly and without apology.
